How the Recipe is Written

Have you ever asked someone for a recipe – maybe you went to dinner at a friends’ house, and you are just dying to make your fried chicken or apple pie taste just as delicious. Or maybe you are asking your mom or grandma for that favorite bread or cookie recipe.

When you get that hand written recipe written on a notecard or piece of scratch paper, I can all but guarantee the recipe is not five notecards long, including detailed instructions for every step.

Most likely, that handwritten, shared recipe has fewer than three sentences written for direction. “Add this, boil that, mix well, and bake.”

These recipes are written in that same “notecard style” of recipe sharing.

Even if you’ve never made one of these soups before, have never made your own gravy or sauce, I have 100% faith that you can make these

All too often, recipes (especially written online or published through a blog) contain unnecessarily lengthy explanations and details in the directions. Paragraphs split with commercial advertisements ($ for the blogger) go on and on. And if you are trying to read the recipe off your phone, honey you better just get used to scrolling because that’s what you’ll be doing.

The directions almost seem endless. And the length makes even a seasoned cook wonder if this recipe is out of their league.

These recipes are simple.

Simple ingredients, simple directions.
